GolfETA Privacy Policy

Golf ETA ("we," "our," or "us") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your information.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information to provide and improve our golf round tracking services:

• Account Information – The email address, display name, and username you sign up with, plus optional profile details you add, such as a bio, handicap, and profile photo. Your password is handled by our authentication provider (see Section 6) and is never visible to us.
• Location Data – Your device's location while the app is in use, to find golf courses near you and, if you choose, to find nearby golfers (see below). GolfETA does not track your location in the background. You can change location access at any time in your iPhone's Settings.
• Round Information – Course name, tee, start time, hole number, scores, players you add to a round, and round progress, including your most recent position during a round.
• Photos – A profile photo, only if you choose to take or select one.
• Device Information – Device type, operating system, and app version for performance optimization.
• Optional Shared Data – When you choose to share a round ETA link or a tournament, that shared information is viewable by anyone with the link.

2. Nearby Golfers (Optional)

GolfETA can show you other golfers nearby and let you invite each other to a round. This is controlled by the Public/Private setting on your profile page and is Private by default.

• Private – Your location is not shared. You can still see other golfers who have chosen Public and invite them.
• Public – While the app is open, your display name and current location are shared with other nearby GolfETA users who are also Public, so they can see and invite you. Sharing stops when you close or leave the app, switch to Private, or sign out.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Track golf round progress in real time.
• Calculate pace and accurate estimated finish times.
• Keep your rounds, scores, and profile saved to your account.
• Enable you to share round progress and ETAs with others (only when you choose to share), and to find and invite nearby golfers (only when you set your profile to Public).
• Improve app performance, accuracy, and user experience.
• Maintain service security and prevent misuse.

4. Information Sharing

• We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties.
• We do not use your information for advertising and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
• We share data with the service providers that run the app (see Section 6), who may only use it to provide those services to us.
• Round and tournament sharing occurs only when you choose to share a link, and nearby sharing occurs only when you set your profile to Public.

5. Data Retention and Security

• Location and round data are stored only as long as necessary to provide the service, and may be retained in anonymized form for statistical or course performance analysis.
• All data is transmitted using secure encryption protocols and stored in secure cloud infrastructure.
• If you turn on Face ID or Touch ID sign-in, your saved sign-in details are kept in your device's secure Keychain and are not sent to us.
• You can delete your account and data at any time (see Section 7).

6. Third-Party Services

GolfETA uses Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, and Cloud Storage) to sign you in and to store your account, rounds, and profile photo. Google processes this data on our behalf under its own terms and privacy practices (firebase.google.com/support/privacy). We may also use other tools for crash reporting or hosting, which process only the limited data needed to support app functionality.

7. Your Rights and Choices

You have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Delete your account and associated data. In the app, go to Settings and choose "Delete Account." This permanently deletes your login, profile and profile photo, the rounds you own, your leaderboard entries, your friend requests and round invites, and any nearby-location record. Rounds you only helped score for someone else, and tournaments you hosted (which contain other people's information), may remain; contact us to have them removed.
• Withdraw consent for location tracking in your iPhone's Settings (note: this may affect app functionality).
• Switch your profile to Private at any time to stop sharing your location with nearby golfers.
• Contact us with privacy questions or concerns.

8. Children's Privacy

GolfETA is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn that we have inadvertently collected such information, we will delete it.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date above.
